After the 2019 assembly elections, Uddhav Thackeray ended the long-standing alliance with the BJP, alleging that the BJP failed to honor the agreement to share the chief minister's position.

Maharashtra Politics : Maharashtra minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule stated on Saturday that the Shiv Sena (UBT) has chosen to contest the upcoming civic elections independently. This decision comes as the party acknowledges that breaking its alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and partnering with the Congress in 2019 was a significant error. Amidst the exchange of accusations regarding the defeat of the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) in the Maharashtra assembly elections, Shiv Sena (UBT), a principal member of the MVA, announced that it will participate in the civic polls on its own.
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut mentioned that the decision to contest independently was due to insufficient opportunities for alliance party workers and the need for organizational growth. Bawankule, the president of the BJP's Maharashtra unit, commented, "Shiv Sena has understood its error in selecting the Congress instead of the BJP and Devendra Fadnavis in 2019. Uddhav Thackeray's party has recognized that the Congress's ideology cannot advance it."
Uddhav Thackeray was the Chief Minister from 2019 to 2022
After the 2019 assembly elections, Uddhav Thackeray ended the long-standing alliance with the BJP, asserting that the BJP failed to honor the promise of sharing the chief minister's position, prompting the split. He then allied with the Congress and the (undivided) Nationalist Congress Party, serving as Chief Minister from 2019 to 2022. Bawankule stated that the ruling coalition 'Mahayuti' will make every effort to encourage the workers to contest the local body elections together.
Every penny reaches from Delhi to the grassroots level - Bawalkule
He stated, "When a party or coalition with a unified ideology governs from the Center to the Panchayat level, every development fund is effectively distributed from Delhi to the grassroots." Bawankule mentioned that the BJP is the largest party in the Mahayuti, which also includes the Shiv Sena led by Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar's Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).
Bawankule stated that the BJP will avoid arrogance and aim to include allies in local elections. Elections in various urban regions, such as Mumbai, Thane, and Nagpur, have been postponed since early 2022. Speaking about the state BJP's one-day convention in Shirdi on Sunday, Bawankule mentioned that 15,000 delegates will attend, with 50 delegates representing each assembly constituency.
