IPL 2025 : Virat Kohli is facing criticism for his underwhelming performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, and there is growing pressure on him to consider retirement. Meanwhile, it has come to light that Kohli might play county cricket to gear up for the Test series against England in June 2025. Notably, Kohli will only be able to participate in county cricket if Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) fails to qualify for the IPL 2025 playoffs. Previously, Team India's head coach Gautam Gambhir has also highlighted the significance of domestic cricket.

RevSportz reports that Kohli intends to participate in county cricket, but this is contingent on RCB not making it to the playoffs. The IPL 2025 final is scheduled for May 25, while the first Test between India and England is set to begin in Leeds on June 20. Should Bangalore advance to the final, Kohli would have just 14 days to acclimate to English conditions and play county cricket, which may not provide adequate preparation.

Previously, several international cricketers have opted out of franchise cricket to enhance their performance on the international stage. In 2023, Pat Cummins made such a decision by stepping away from IPL 2023 to focus on preparing for the World Test Championship final against India. This break turned out to be beneficial, as under his leadership, Australia triumphed over Team India by 209 runs, securing the World Test Championship title.

RCB retained him for 21 crores

RCB retained Virat Kohli for Rs 21 crore for IPL 2025, making him the fifth most expensive player of the season. As Kohli will head Bangalore's batting line-up, his absence would likely weaken RCB's team. Therefore, it is unlikely that Kohli will miss the entire or half of the IPL 2025 season.
