The World Health Organization (WHO) has characterized HMPV as a common virus. Identified in 2001, it has been present among people since then, according to WHO..

The World Health Organization has responded to HMPV, which appeared in India following China. WHO has labeled it as a common virus, stating that Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) is not new, having been identified in 2001. It has been around for a long time and tends to rise during the winter season.
Recently, numerous cases of HMPV were reported in China, and subsequently, patients began to be identified in India as well. This situation raised concerns among the public, leading to various speculations that this virus might cause chaos similar to the Corona outbreak. However, Health Minister JP Nadda recently urged people not to panic. Now, the WHO has also clarified the situation.
What did WHO say
The World Health Organization stated on the social media platform X that HMPV is not a newly discovered virus; it was identified back in 2001 and has been circulating among people for quite some time. It is a prevalent virus that typically spreads during the winter and spring seasons, often causing respiratory issues and symptoms similar to the common cold.
Nine cases have been found in India
To date, nine cases of HMPV have been documented in the country. On Wednesday morning, the ninth case was identified in Maharashtra, where a 6-month-old girl was diagnosed with the infection at Hiranandani Hospital. Previously, two cases were reported in Nagpur. The initial case of this virus emerged in Karnataka. Additionally, there have been two cases in Tamil Nadu and one case each in West Bengal and Gujarat.
