The number of HMP virus cases is rising in the country, with cases detected in 5 states so far. A total of 8 cases have been reported. Due to the increase in cases, the government is on high alert. Preparations are being reviewed, and guidelines have been issued to the states. Health agencies have also been advised to stay vigilant.

HMP virus :As the world was recovering from the coronavirus pandemic, similar conditions have started to appear in China due to the Human Meta Pneumo Virus (HMPV). Reports of overcrowded hospitals and viral videos on social media have raised global concerns. This virus has also reached India, with the first case confirmed in Bengaluru. To date, there have been 8 reported cases across the country, spread over 5 states: 2 each in Karnataka and Maharashtra, 1 in Gujarat, 1 in West Bengal, and 2 in Tamil Nadu.
The Union Health Ministry stated that the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has identified HMPV infection in two children in Karnataka: a three-month-old girl and an eight-month-old boy. Furthermore, a two-month-old girl in Gujarat has been diagnosed with the infection. Experts and doctors, however, suggest that this virus is not highly serious, as most individuals show flu-like symptoms and there is a lower risk of it becoming more dangerous.
Despite this, the government remains on high alert. Preparations are being reassessed, guidelines have been distributed to the states, and health agencies have been instructed to remain watchful.
Two patients found in Nagpur
Two potential cases of the HMP virus have been found in Nagpur, Maharashtra. The virus was identified in a 13-year-old girl and a 7-year-old boy. After experiencing ongoing cold, cough, and fever symptoms, the family opted for testing. The results were positive, but neither child needed to be hospitalized.
The first case came from Bengaluru…
In Bengaluru, an 8-month-old child was admitted to a private hospital with a fever, where tests detected the HMP virus. Similarly, another case surfaced at a Bengaluru hospital, involving a 3-month-old child hospitalized for bronchopneumonia, who was also diagnosed with the HMP virus.
The government has started preparations…
A meeting of the Joint Monitoring Group was convened on January 4. Subsequently, a meeting took place under the leadership of the Director General of the Ministry of Health. Meanwhile, the situation in China is under close observation. Accurate information has been requested from the WHO in a timely manner. Fortunately, unlike COVID-19, there is no unusual increase in this disease. Nonetheless, hospitals are swiftly preparing to address respiratory illnesses.
