West Indies all-rounder Sherfane Rutherford has participated in the IPL and also plays in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). This batsman from Gujarat Titans has recently made a serious accusation against the owner of his CPL team. Following a match, the 26-year-old was blamed for the loss by the team owner, who sent him a message. Sherfane has now spoken out about the incident, expressing his dissatisfaction and emphasizing the importance of respecting a player.
Rutherford made these allegations on the owner of CPL franchise
Rutherford has spoken out following a controversy after a CPL 2024 match. His team, St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots, lost to the Barbados Royals. Following this, the management asked him to leave the team, and the owner blamed him for the defeat through a message. In an interview with Cricbuzz, Sherfan expressed, 'It's important to respect the player because I did what I was supposed to do. I didn't lose on purpose. After the match against Barbados, the owner messaged me saying the team lost because of me. I told him it's not the right time to send such a message to a player.'
Team owner does not know cricket
Rutherford also remarked on the owner of the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots team, noting that he lacks knowledge about cricket. The 26-year-old Rutherford stated, we are professional players as well. We have feelings and emotions. When we don't perform well, it impacts us. The team owner hasn't played this game and doesn't have cricket knowledge. So how can he judge what is good or bad? This is all seen in cricket. In the end, our decisions can move us forward, so I think he has made an error.
Sherfane Rutherford will be seen in IPL 2025
Sherfane's performance in CPL 2024 was underwhelming, as he scored only 35 runs in four matches. He is set to compete in IPL 2025, after being acquired by Gujarat for Rs 2.60 crore at the auction. In IPL 2024, he was part of the Kolkata Knight Riders.
