The date for the by-election in the Milkipur constituency of Uttar Pradesh has been announced. In this regard, the Congress party has made an important declaration: they will not be contesting the Milkipur by-election. This decision was communicated by Ajay Rai, the Uttar Pradesh Congress President. The voting in Milkipur is set for February 5, with the results to be declared on February 8.

Ajay Rai stated regarding the Milkipur by-election that they have not participated in the by-elections held so far. They have abstained from contesting 9 by-elections and will also refrain from contesting the Milkipur by-election. He further mentioned that they are concentrating on strengthening their organization and preparing for the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections slated for 2027.

What did Ajay Rai say?

Ajay Rai expressed his plan to support the Samajwadi Party in the Milkipur by-election. He explained that since they are not contesting the elections, it makes sense to support those who are. Commenting on Bahujan Samaj Party leader Mayawati, Ajay Rai noted that she is contesting alone and will likely continue to do so, as she is not expected to find any allies.

Regarding Congress' plans for the 2027 elections, Ajay Rai stated that their organization-building initiative is underway. Their in-charge, along with former presidents from four states, are actively participating in the process. They are receiving support from everyone, and all efforts are directed towards strengthening the organization.

BJP and SP face to face

In light of the by-election announcement for the Milkipur seat, both the Samajwadi Party and BJP are putting in maximum effort. The BJP seeks to maintain its reputation in Ayodhya by winning this seat, located in Ayodhya district, though it is considered a stronghold of Akhilesh Yadav. Since 1991, the BJP has only secured this seat twice.

SP President Akhilesh Yadav has selected Ajit Prasad, son of MP Awadhesh Prasad, as the candidate for the Faizabad seat. Meanwhile, the BJP has yet to announce their candidate for this constituency. In the 2022 assembly elections, the SP garnered 1,03,905 votes in the Milkipur seat, with the BJP coming in second.
