Rohit Sharma, currently facing a slump in form, could be appointed as the captain of Team India for the Champions Trophy 2025, scheduled for February-March.

Rohit Sharma faced difficulties with his form in the recent Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, managing to score only 31 runs across three Test matches. Previously, his performance was also lackluster in the home Test series against New Zealand. Nonetheless, despite these struggles, Rohit Sharma appears poised to be appointed as the captain of Team India for the Champions Trophy 2025.
Due to Rohit's poor form, there were rumors about his removal from Team India's captaincy, but this might not happen. Many media reports suggested that Hardik Pandya would replace Rohit Sharma as the captain of Team India in ODIs, but this doesn't appear to be the case. According to a report on News 18, Rohit Sharma will continue to lead India's ODI team at least until the Champions Trophy.
However, it's notable that Rohit's performance in Test cricket has been lacking recently, which may not impact his ODI captaincy. There is no official confirmation about Rohit Sharma being the captain for the Champions Trophy. It will be interesting to see what decision the BCCI makes for the ICC tournament.
When will the team be announced for the Champions Trophy
All teams are required to submit their provisional squads by January 12. Consequently, the BCCI is likely to announce Team India around this time. It will be intriguing to see the timing of Team India's announcement and the players selected for the team.
Notably, the Champions Trophy is scheduled to begin on February 19. While Pakistan will host the tournament, Team India will play its matches in Dubai following the hybrid model.
